Selama masa penjajahan Jepang, sekitar 400 orang di Korea, yang dipaksa ke Battleship Island untuk menambang batu bara, berusaha melarikan diri.
Seorang bernama Lee Kang-Ok diperankan oleh Hwang Jung-Min adalah seorang Pemimpin orkes di Kyungsung Hotel. Dia memutuskan untuk pergi ke Jepang untuk melindungi putrinya, tapi dia dikonsultasikan ke dalam Battleship Island dengan paksa, ditipu oleh pembicaraan untuk mengirimnya ke Jepang. Di Battleship Island, dia melakukan apapun untuk melindungi putrinya.
Di sisi lain ada Choi Chil-Sung diperankan oleh So Ji-Sub adalah petarung terbaik di Kyungsung (yang sekarang ini adalah Kota Seoul). Dia membuat masalah di Battleship Island, tapi dia memiliki hati yang hangat.
Park Moo-Young di perankan oleh Song Joong-Ki termasuk dalam kelompok Kemerdekaan Korea. Dia menyelinap ke Battleship Island untuk menyelamatkan anggota kelompok kemerdekaannya. Walaupun mereka berbeda-beda namun memiliki tujuan yang sama.
